JARED RODRIGUEZ

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

We need a neighborhood-scale approach to planning for and building new infrastructure to accelerate decarbonization while staying engaged with communities and residents. Thermal energy network projects yield benefits that residents and local businesses can see and feel, especially when they are involved from the start and participate in the decision making process.

Combining expertise in sustainability, urban planning, and real estate development, Jared has extensive experience leading policy and regulatory efforts for energy- and climate-related initiatives.

Jared works with businesses, organizations, and state and municipal governments on issues related to decarbonization, sustainable technology, real estate development and management, and transportation. He advises the Empire Building Challenge, a program that fosters public-private partnerships with leading commercial and multifamily real estate owners to recruit best-in-class equipment manufacturers, solution providers, and other businesses to invest in low carbon retrofit technology development. Jared’s clients include NYSERDA, HEET, EarthJustice, various housing cooperatives, large commercial real estate owners, utilities, and other organizations. In all his work, Jared develops approaches to complex problem solving and identifies appropriate solutions, prioritizing actions to meet challenging goals over time.

Previously, Jared served as a Director at the LeFrak Organization, a leading family-owned real estate company with an extensive portfolio of properties concentrated in New York, New Jersey, California, and Florida. During his eight-year tenure, he led initiatives focused on every aspect of real estate development and management across residential, hotel, retail, and office properties. He developed all of LeFrak’s sustainability programs and clean energy initiatives including the firm’s Energy Conservation Master Plan, a portfolio-wide energy and water monitoring system, and renewable energy development initiatives. Jared also helped to lead lobbying efforts related to city and state energy policy, utility and environmental regulations, and regional transportation planning.

Jared has influenced pioneering legislation including the NYC Climate Mobilization Act, the NY Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, the federal Inflation Reduction Act, and the NY Utility Thermal Energy Networks and Jobs Act. He also serves as proxy Citizens’ Representative, a Governor appointment, on the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA), a federally authorized Metropolitan Planning Organization for the 13-county northern New Jersey region.

Jared brings experience with municipal governance and local planning and policy, having served as Chairman of the Comprehensive Plan for Village of Haverstraw, elected Trustee of the Village of Sleepy Hollow Board of Trustees, and board member of several nonprofits in the region including Garner Arts Center. He was recently confirmed by the New York State Governor and Senate as a member of the Taconic Regional Commission of the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.

Jared holds a BS in Civil Engineering and Architectural Studies from Tufts University and an MS in Real Estate Development from New York University. He lives in Sleepy Hollow, New York with his family.
